After the Wörthersee Gravel Race 2025, the enthusiasm in the region is unbroken. Thousands of spectators lined the course, the atmosphere was electrifying – and the weekend also ensured full beds, full restaurants and a new benchmark for sporting events in Carinthia.
Economic tailwind and a strong signal for the region
“We not only had top sporting performances, but also a weekend of enormous economic value,” summarizes Peter Peschel, Managing Director of the Wörthersee-Rosental region. “It was pleasing to see that significantly more businesses were open compared to the previous year. The feedback from guests and participants was also overwhelmingly positive. The event not only moved the region, but also provided a lasting economic boost.”

There was a very special picture along the entire course: hundreds of fans, families and spectators enthusiastically cheered on the athletes – in all the communities through which the race passed.
The newly crowned Austrian champion Lukas Pöstlberger summed it up at the finish: “So many people at home cheering, holding signs or simply clapping – it was pure goosebumps. This energy carried us, thank you Carinthia – thank you Velden!”

The vision is clear: Carinthia is aiming to host the UCI Gravel World Championships in 2025. The Wörthersee Gravel Race has impressively shown that the region is ready for it. Governor Peter Kaiser underlines this: “We have big plans. I hope we will succeed in bringing the Gravel World Championships to Carinthia this year. That would be the crowning glory of our efforts.”
The pros also support the bid for Villach as the venue. The winner Geerike Schreurs from the Netherlands says: “I would love the World championships will take place here! The course, the scenery, the crowd – everything is on the highest level. I really hope to come back here again this year!
